Community and School Gardens
We believe that using community and school gardens greatly benefits our health. Community gardens become places where people of all ages have the opportunity to be physically active, develop community spirit, and most importantly to grow healthy and nutritious food for their families. Likewise, school gardens can be used as an educational resource for a wide range of academic subjects including nutrition and health science. In Maine, gardens have become a significant part of implementing Learning Results in many schools.

Modeling themselves after the Maine School Garden Network, a diverse group of Hancock County residents including business men and women, teachers, school administrators, parents, youth, and gardeners have been dialoguing about successful and hopeful garden projects. In the future, this local network hopes to provide support and guidance for community and school gardens alike. For further information about this network and for local garden related workshops and events, please contact Youth Coordinator Emilia Bachrach at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or (207) 667-5352.
